How Much Do Ashsinhalt Whippet Puppies Cost?

Our puppies are $4,000 AUD. A fully refundable deposit of $1,000 is required once the puppies are born and we’ve confirmed numbers and sexes. This deposit is deducted from the total price, with the remaining $3,000 balance due once a puppy has been assigned to you.

What’s Included with Our Puppies?
We are committed to giving our puppies the best possible start in life. From 3 to 16 days of age, all puppies receive Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI). All of our puppies are raised following Puppy Culture protocols, which guide positive socialization and enrichment activities tailored to each developmental stage. These protocols help build confident, well-rounded, and adaptable Whippets.
At 7 weeks old, puppies have their first vaccination, microchip, and a thorough veterinary examination. Around this time, we assess each puppy’s personality and structure to match them to the most suitable family on our waiting list. Puppies can leave for their new homes from 8 weeks of age, though we’re happy to hold them a little longer if needed.

Puppy Packs
Each puppy goes home with a carefully curated puppy pack, or it will be mailed to you if you’re interstate. Our packs include special items that smell like us and the mother to help with the transition, along with a variety of surprises to spoil your new addition one last time before they leave.

Paperwork and Registration
You’ll receive all veterinary paperwork and ANKC pedigree papers for your puppy. Pedigree papers are mailed directly to you by Dogs SA after we submit the registrations, which happens once all puppies are assigned to their new homes. If there’s any delay, let us know we’re happy to follow up with Dogs SA on your behalf.

Every litter is bred with careful consideration. Our sires are chosen to complement our bitches in health, temperament, conformation, and instincts. All of our dogs are fully health tested, and as new genetic tests become available for the breed, we ensure our dogs are tested. Where Is Ashsinhalt Whippets Located, and Do You Export Puppies?

Ashsinhalt Whippets is located in South Australia. We’re happy to send our puppies to loving homes across the country, with flights departing from Adelaide Airport. Domestic flights typically cost between $250–$400, depending on the destination.

We also offer international export and have successfully placed our puppies with families and breeders abroad. For overseas homes, flight costs usually range between $3,500–$4,000 AUD, with additional veterinary fees potentially required. Please note that puppies must be at least 12 weeks old before they can be exported.

Will an Ashsinhalt Whippet Be Safe with Cats or Other Pets?

Absolutely!
While our whippets are bred for high prey drive and strong instincts, they are also bred for confidence, intelligence, and adaptability. This combination makes them more than capable of learning the difference between pets and prey, provided they receive the correct training and socialisation.

During their time with us, our puppies are carefully introduced to a variety of other animals to start this learning process early. They are positively socialised with our small pets and even livestock, helping them understand how to coexist peacefully.

The key to maintaining harmony in a multi-pet household is the continued training and guidance you provide. With consistent positive reinforcement and proper introductions, your whippet can grow into a well-behaved, trustworthy companion for all members of your family, furry or otherwise!

Can I Get Two Puppies at Once or Add a Puppy to My Young Dog at Home?

The short answer is no, and here’s why: the very real challenge of littermate syndrome. Despite its name, this phenomenon doesn’t only occur in puppies from the same litter but can affect any two puppies of similar ages (typically within 6–12 months of each other), regardless of breed.

What Is Littermate Syndrome?
Littermate syndrome is a developmental issue where two young dogs raised together fail to develop independently. Instead of forming strong bonds with their human family, they often become overly reliant on each other, leading to significant behavioral and emotional challenges.
Even professional guide dog programs, with highly experienced trainers and rigorously tested puppies, have found this issue impossible to overcome. When they placed two temperament-tested puppies in the same household, they observed serious problems that led them to immediately end the practice. In every case:
 • One puppy became shy, withdrawn, and introverted, even if both started out bold and confident.
 • The other, typically the “bolder” puppy, often developed nervousness and insecurity when separated from its sibling.
 • Both puppies became overly dependent on each other, exhibiting severe anxiety when apart.
 • Their bond with humans was significantly weaker than it would have been if raised alone.
 • As they matured, the puppies were prone to severe fighting, often requiring rehoming of one or both dogs.

Why Can’t I Just Train Them Separately?
Preventing littermate syndrome requires extraordinary effort, even for experienced trainers. Raising two puppies together means:
 • Keeping them separated most of the time.

Our Return Policy

When you purchase an Ashsinhalt puppy, you agree to return the puppy or dog to us if you are ever unable to keep or care for them, at any point in their life. This policy ensures that every Ashsinhalt Whippet always has a safe and loving place to go and allows me to stay connected, knowing where my puppies are and ensuring their well-being.

A refund will be issued once the puppy or dog is rehomed to their new forever home, minus any expenses incurred during the process. We are committed to the well-being of every dog we breed and are here to support you and your Whippet throughout their life.

Our Policy on Delayed Desexing

When purchasing an Ashsinhalt puppy, you agree to keep the dog intact (not desexed) until they are at least 18 months of age. This policy is in place to ensure your Whippet develops fully and healthily, as hormones play a critical role in their growth, development, and long-term well-being.

Hormones are essential for:

• Joint and Bone Development: Proper hormonal balance supports the growth plates in the bones, ensuring they close at the correct time. Early desexing can lead to delayed closure, potentially causing structural issues that can increase the risk of injury.
 • Brain Development and Function: Hormones significantly influence cognitive development and behavioral stability. Intact dogs are more likely to mature into confident, well-balanced adults.

We’re thrilled to introduce our Guardianship Program, a wonderful opportunity for families to love and care for one of our exceptional Whippet puppies while helping us achieve our breeding goals.
As breeders, we understand the importance of giving each of our dogs the time, love, and attention they deserve. Since we can’t keep all of our beautiful puppies, this program allows us to place our pick or second-pick puppies in loving homes while continuing to contribute to the future of the breed.

Here’s how it works:

• Puppies in the Guardianship Program are carefully selected and placed with their Guardian families to live as cherished companions. These can be either male or female puppies.
 • Our Guardian Families are offered an exclusive discount on every meal purchased from Lyka.
 • We cover all health testing costs to ensure the dog is fit for breeding.
 • Once the dog reaches breeding age, they will return to us for breeding, whelping, and raising their litter. Afterward, they go back to their loving Guardian family. 
 • Occasionally, we may pick up the dog for weekends to participate in shows or sporting events. These opportunities allow us to earn titles and demonstrate their quality and value to the breed.

When the dog retires from breeding, full ownership is transferred to the Guardian family, allowing the dog to live out the rest of their life in the home they’ve always known and loved.
